You don’t have to travel the world to get a taste of international cuisine. And, you definitely don’t have to travel to Australia to get some delicious “shrimp on the barbie.”  By the way, the Australian slang for barbecue is barbie.

Here in America, this cuisine is called “shrimp on the grill.”  As a matter of fact, you can find tons of “shrimp on the grill” recipes right here in America.

Since it’s about that time of year to start barbecuing for friends & family, I would like to share these 5 easy grilled shrimp recipes with you. .

Now You Too Can Have Some Shrimp On the Barbie!

Hawaiian Shrimp  W/ Mushrooms & Cherry Tomatoes

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 (20 ounce) cans pineapple chunks, juice reserved
  • 1/2 pound bacon slices, cut into 2inch pieces
  • 2 large red bell peppers, chopped
  • 1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, stems removed
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup sweet and sour sauce
  • skewers

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat grill for high heat.

Step 2: Thread shrimp, pineapple, bacon, red bell peppers, mushroom caps, and cherry tomatoes on skewers, alternating ingredients.

Step 3: Place in a shallow baking dish In a small bowl, mix sweet and sour sauce with reserved pineapple juice.

Step 4: Reserve a small amount for basting. Pour remaining sauce over skewers.

Step 5: Lightly oil grill grate.

Step 6: Cook kabobs on preheated grill for 6 to 8 minutes, or until opaque, basting often with reserved sauce.

Sweet Grilled Shrimp Skewers

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon ranch-style salad dressing
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
  • 4 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • wooden skewers

Directions:

Step 1: Combine brown sugar, lemon juice, molasses, basil, vegetable oil,mustard, honey, clove, ranch dressing, chili powder, and garlic in a large bowl.

Step 2: Toss in shrimp to coat, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Step 3: Meanwhile, soak wooden skewers in hot water to prevent burning on the grill.

Step 4: Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil grate.

Step 5: Thread shrimp tightly on to skewers.

Step 6: Cook on the top rack of the grill for approximately 4 minutes, or until the shrimp turns pink on
one side.

Step 7: Flip shrimp and cook for an additional 2 to 4 minutes, or until there are no signs of grey.

Step 8: Use a fork to remove shrimp from the skewers.

Amazing Spicy Grilled Shrimp

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Asian chile paste
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 12 wooden skewers, soaked in water

Directions:

Step 1:Whisk together the olive oil, sesame oil, parsley, hot sauce, minced garlic, ketchup, chile sauce, salt, pepper, and lemon juice in a mixing bowl.

Step 2: Set aside about 1/3 of this marinade to use while grilling.

Step 3: Place the shrimp in a large, resealable plastic bag.

Step 4: Pour in the remaining marinade and seal the bag.

Step 5: Refrigerate for 2 hours.

Step 6: Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.

Step 7: Thread shrimp onto skewers,piercing once near the tail and once near the head.

Step 8: Discard marinade. Lightly oil grill grate.

Step 9: Cook shrimp for 2 minutes per side until opaque, basting frequently with reserved marinade.

Ron’s Grilled Shrimp

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh cilantra
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 2 pounds jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined

Directions:

Step 1: Combine lime juice, lemon juice, olive oil, and vinegar in a large bowl.

Step 2: Add cilantro, parsley, basil, salt, pepper, garlic, and crushed red pepper; mix thoroughly.

Step 3: Add shrimp and toss to coat.

Step 4: Cover and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours, tossing occasionally.

Step 5: Preheat grill for medium-high heat.

Step 6: Place shrimp in a grill basket.

Step 7: Grill shrimp until pink on the outside and opaque in the center, 5 to 6 minutes.

Step 8: Stirring regularly during cooking.

Spicy Grilled Shrimp

Ingredients:

  • 1 large clove garlic
  • 1 tablespoon coarse salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 pounds large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 8 wedges lemon, for garnish

Directions:

Step 1: Preheat grill for medium heat.

Step 2: In a small bowl, crush the garlic with the salt.

Step 3: Mix in cayenne pepper and paprika, and then stir in olive oil and lemon juice to form a
paste.

Step 4: In a large bowl, toss shrimp with garlic paste until evenly coated.

Step 5: Lightly oil grill grate.

Step 6: Cook shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until opaque.

Step 7: Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with lemon wedges and serve.
